Free T-Mobile WiFi with latest PSP firmware update
Sony's looking to make their latest PSP firmware upgrade, version 3.30, too appetizing for all the homebrew users out there to pass up. In addition to officially sanctioned (albeit tempermental) full resolution video support, Sony has upped the ante by offering 3.30 users 6-months of complimentary access to T-Mobile WiFi HotSpots, available at over 8000 locations across the US including Starbucks, Borders, FedEx Kinko's, Hyatt, Red Roof Inns, Sofitel and Novotel Hotels, and select airports. Yeah, for free.To access the service, follow PSP Fanboy's handy guide. Have an innate distrust of guides? We'll condense it for you: turn on your PSP within range of a T-Mobile HotSpot, select the T-Mobile HotSpot icon under Network Settings, select [Use Promotional Access] if you ain't got an account already, and then get your game on! Now, if only more PSP games supported Infrastructure mode.

All the more reason for 3.30 OE-A to get released.

Give me a cell modem and free access for 6 months on the T-Mobile network and then I'll be jazzed. This I really don't care about.

I'll be passing on this. And 6 months later I'll still be able watch streaming videos from my media server, programming in Lua and playing my UMD/PSX backups on memory stick.

you'll have to pry the 3.10 OE-A' from my cold, dead hands

I agree with Zamfir: what in the world does an anti-UMD picture have to do with free T-Mobile WiFi being included in firmware 3.30. It might make sense if this post was about the increased video resolution support, which would drive a final nail in the coffin of movie-UMDs (thus, a picture with a movie UMD being crossed out would make some sense), but as this post only references the video support in past tense (i.e. referencing a previous post), and makes no mention of video-UMDs, the anti-UMD picture just doesn't make sense...
Unless, I suppose, if it's a paradoxical display of hatred of the PSP (paradoxical because this post is about Sony giving updaters a free gift). I'm not saying that this picture is Joystiq's attempt to attack the PSP, but I'm at a lose for any other explanation.
In any case, in reference to the PSP only having a limited amount of infrastructure games, I'd point out that the PSP has far more than its competitor, the DS (and no annoying friend-codes either). In any case, this is an issue that Sony can't really be criticized for, as Sony puts out far more infrastructure games than third-party developers.

why does someone always have to bring up some type of 'psp > ds' argument in every single post about the psp or the ds?
Oobgarm @ Mar 30th 2007 12:19PM
Appetizing? T-Mobile WiFi?
No thanks.
I can wait for 3.30 OE-x for my hi-res video.
JodyAnthony @ Mar 30th 2007 12:21PM
3.10 OE-A can play full resolution videos

although it would be nice to sit outside and enjoy some sunshine at a starbucks and play a little psp. oh wait thats right...that whole glare thing
there is really nothing that they could offer that would make me switch to a sony firmware. I am seriously addicted to Raw v Smackdown 2007.. it makes my train ride go to fast.

I just want to know where i can get free wi-fi access for my DS in japan... :-(
driven2sin @ Apr 4th 2007 9:24PM
i spent last two days in jury duty playing phoenix wright... the PSP is flashy but and I wouldn't diss it totally, just that the DS has some seriously good games for it.
glad there is competition - shame that most of the ppl that like their PSP have to hack the hell out of it to get value.. DS is magic out of the box

@Post 6:
I am in total agreement with this guy. This is the most prejudiced report ever. This is why most people still look down on you bloggers since you are not reliable and not news. You let your biases run your content it's not very nice. I can understand commentary based on the subject matter, but a picture that is clearly anti-sony (which is an annoying trendy BS thing that bloggers have been doing lately) in a post that has nothing to do with UMD's AT ALL, is blatantly unprofessional. You guys want to be professional or not?
t_m @ Apr 5th 2007 9:55AM
duh... its called "A JOKE". Try googling it.
The reason most of us read blogs insted of newpapers is because they are more interesting and funny than a dry newspaper report. Or at least, thats what i assumed. Maybe some people truely don't get that almost every post is sarcastic, or taking a stab at it's subject in some way... nah.. thay can't be that dumb..
Then again, every time joystiq makes a post about the PSP, or the DS, or the Wii, or the PS3, or whatever, there are always dozens of 10 year old fanboys popping up claiming some kind of vendetta.. seemingly failing to notice that they do it for ALL PLATFORMS, not jus their beloved one.
sheesh..
